Calthorpes' House

Wringer

Date: Unknown

Maker: Acme Manufacturing Co.

Place made: Britain

Dimensions: 45 (h) x 60 (w) cm

Description: A clothes wringer with a cast iron frame and two 14 inch rubber rollers and two wooden side slats attached. In manoeuvring the garments carefully through the wringer it was still easy and painful to include the fingertips. The washtubs were considered to be at the ‘high end’ as they contained three tubs instead of the regular two, and had both hot and cold running water on tap to each tub.
